Childs Play for Oz-Bound Emma.
CHILDCARE is one of the fastest growing professions these days with an ever-increasing range of regulations and standards to meet.
BC Consultants is keeping ahead of the game and has just put a group of candidates through the revised - Childrens Care Learning and Development Level Four Vocational Qualification - aimed at those who presently work as Managers of settings. Emma Shields, 27, who works at the Cherrytrees Little Acorns nursery at Portobello in Edinburgh, is one of the first groups to complete the course.
She said: ”The course was hard going but really worth it in the end”.
"There are so many changes going on in childcare and I learned a lot from it.
"My aim is to eventually become a Nursery Manager or Deputy Manager and I recognise these are the qualifications you need to get up to that level.”
Emma – who joined the nursery from school 11 years ago and is a room supervisor for two and three-year-olds – is so delighted with her latest achievement she has awarded herself a career break by going travelling in Australia.
She said: “I am going down under in December for three months and the nursery is keeping my job open for me. It is something I have always wanted to do and it is re-assuring I can go out there and enjoy myself knowing I have got these qualifications behind me.”
Anne Benzie was Assessor to Emma during the new Level Four course and she had nothing but praise for her commitment and enthusiasm.
She said: “Emma achieved the qualification within 11 months which is seven months ahead of the expected completion date.
“She is a hard worker and deserves her success and I am sure Emma has a bright future ahead of her.”
As well as Emma, Sue Anderson, Freda Mitchell, Lynette Moncrieff, Diane Shaw and Joyce Williamson were in the first group to achieve the new revised qualification through BC Consultants.
