Amanda’s Published Achievement.
ONE of Amanda Rowley’s day time activities resulted in a night out to remember! Amanda who is a service user of Lanark Lodge Day Support Services in Duns was selected as a regional finalist for the Student of the Year Award hosted by Newcastle based awarding body NCFE.
Amanda received this accolade as a result of completing the ‘Desk Top Publishing’ unit as part of the Borders College Skills Accreditation Programme. Many hours spent in front of a computer paid off when Amanda successfully achieved an entry level award and an invitation to attend the high-profile event in Newcastle.
Amanda’s tutor Graham Man, who taught and supported her throughout her Programme, said “Amanda has worked really hard and fully deserves this acknowledgement of her commitment to learning.” Graham, together with Fiona Brackenridge from BC Consultants entered Amanda for the NCFE award.
Amanda was delighted to attend the event which involved an overnight stay in Newcastle. She was fully supported by care staff from Mountview in Duns who pulled out all the stops to make sure she didn’t miss out on this opportunity of a lifetime. Amanda commented ‘I had a great time. I never had opportunities to achieve qualifications in the past and I haven’t won anything before!’
David Grailey, Chief Executive of NCFE presented Amanda with a certificate and a cheque for being runner-up of the Northern Ireland and Scotland section. Sharing her success at the event were Amanda’s family, and invited guests. Everyone enjoyed a wonderful night of food, celebration and entertainment.
The Desk Top Publishing unit is one of 250 available as part of the Borders College Skills Accreditation Programme which is managed by BC Consultants.
