Caring About Qualifications.
“Qualifications do matter”. That was the message that came over loud and clear at an award ceremony hosted by BC Consultants and attended by workers from the Care Sector in the Borders and Edinburgh.
The event, which took place at Tweed Horizons in Newtown St Boswells, was a celebration of success for candidates who had completed work-based Scottish Vocational Qualifications in Health & Social Care. Workers from Streets Ahead Borders, Mountview in Duns, Brothers of Charity Services and Link Living were among those who attended.

Bill Sim, Workforce Planning & Development Manager of Scottish Borders Council Social Work Services, who presented the certificates, said that he was “delighted to see the level of commitment to training shown by organisations and individual workers”. He stressed the importance that qualifications now play in the care sector as all workers work towards registration with the Scottish Social Services Council and he praised BC Consultants for delivering a high standard of SVQ training.
Scottish Borders Council has been providing financial help to the independent and voluntary sectors the Borders area to encourage the uptake of training emphasising that “a better qualified workforce means a higher standard of care for the users of services”.
BC Consultants (a subsidiary company of Borders College) put around one hundred people each year through the SVQ Health & Social Care programme as well as providing range of short courses specifically designed for the care sector.
