Borders On Success!.

Vicki_Burnett

Vicki Burnett has just completed her Business and Administration Scottish Vocational Qualification 2 as a Skillseeker with BC Consultants, in record time!

A delighted Vicki saw her hard work and enthusiasm rewarded when she achieved the prestigious award this summer:

Doing the Skillseekers course has given me a lot more confidence when dealing with others and more confidence in myself. It has also taught me that no matter how hard it may seem at the beginning you will get through it. I didn’t think I would be able to complete my qualification, but I did and I am really proud of what I have achieved.

I would advise any young person to do a Skillseekers course and a Scottish Vocational Qualification as you do gain such a lot.

Thank you Joyce, my assessor with BC Consultants, and everyone in my work place who helped me through it.”

Having received funding through Skillseekers, Vicki trained with Scottish Borders Council in Duns, where she undertook training in all aspects of administration and was assessed in the workplace for her award. She was supported throughout the programme by her line manager, Janet Lackenby who commented:

Vicki joined a busy team at a very challenging time due to a variety of changes ongoing within the Council.

I have been involved with Skillseekers before over the years but Vicki has been my first Skillseeker since I have been a line manager. I have found the whole experience very beneficial and rewarding, I realised that I could gain as much from this as Vicki and wanted to see her achieve her SVQ as I did feel that it could be seen as my inability as much as Vicki’s if she didn’t.

I have over the past ten months watched a nervous, quiet young 17 year-old develop into a confident, competent young lady who has learned the day to day practical routines of a very busy office environment and has quickly developed the skills in dealing with public enquiries on a variety of services offered by Scottish Borders Council. She is willing now to try new challenges head on with a new found confidence in her own ability.

I believe that Vicki has gained vital practical skills by completing the Skillseekers SVQ programme which will stand her in good stead for any job opportunity that may come her way.

All who worked with her were impressed with the way in which she developed her skills and consolidated her knowledge of the organisation’s policies and procedures. As a result, she has been given the finest recommendation of all, in that she has now been employed meantime by SBC as a clerical assistant within the Contact Centre.

Congratulations Vicki! We wish you every continued success!
