Swedish Students Experience Scottish Borders Hospitality.
12 Tourism students from Eskilstuna recently spent two weeks in the Scottish Borders. The group, 11 girls and 1 boy were in the area to undertake a period of work experience in a number of local Tourism and Hospitality businesses, these included The Lodge at Carfraemill, The Cross Keys Hotel Kelso, The Roxburghe Hotel and Golf Course, Teviot Smokery, Baxters in Selkirk and Windlestraw Lodge Innerleithen. The work experience was organized by BC Consultants after a study trip to Sweden in 2008. The aim of the trip was to help the individuals gain a Scottish experience both in relation to work and to the Scottish culture, some of the students stayed in the businesses while others were placed with local families.

Luckily the weather was kind and the students were able to experience Scotts View, Floors Castle, the Borders and Edinburgh at their very best. Prior to returning to Sweden Scottish Borders Campus was the venue for a ‘get together’ for the students, placements and host families, the Catering and Hospitality students from Borders College prepared and served a wonderful selection of the finest dishes using local Borders produce. The trip proved to be a great success, the Swedish youngsters forming strong bonds with their placements and hosts while the local businesses enjoyed working with the students, many commenting on the hard work and commitment of the students, their excellent language skills and the pleasure of having them as part of the team.
Stephanie Bell, BC Consultants added that this worthwhile experience has helped form a strong platform for future exchanges which will enable Scottish students to undertake similar trips to Sweden, discussions regarding this are currently ongoing, further information regarding this can be obtained by contacting Stephanie on 01896 662577 or sbell@bordercollege.ac.uk
