SKILLS ACCREDITATON

This programme offers training & development for users of day services, people working in supported employment, those who are supported in their own home or similar organisations. It is a unique course of training, developed exclusively by Borders College which has been specifically designed to be carried out in a variety of settings.

The programme offers a choice of over 300 units which require candidates to build a portfolio that can be beneficial for job seeking and future employment opportunities. All units are accredited and certified by NCFE.

Through development of a partnership with each client, BC Consultants assists staff to provide a programme of learning and assessment for their users. The Team are able to offer support for training and assessment at the most appropriate location for the candidate, whether this be within a workplace, day centre, community venue or even at home.

Unit subject areas include Life skills, Work skills, Leisure and Personal Development. Most units can be undertaken at Entry Level or at Level One depending upon the ability of the candidate. Candidates can also progress from Entry Level to Level One.

BC Consultants provides staff training and support as required, especially in areas relating to training and assessment.

Skills Accreditation is a Borders College Programme managed by its wholly owned subsidiary company, BC Business Consultants Ltd.

THE TENANCY AWARD

The Tenancy Award is an entry and level one programme for people who are supported in their own tenancies. It is ideal for those who are working towards independent living and wish to acquire the skills necessary to maintain their tenancy. Some candidates may be in a transitional phase with regard to their accommodation when they undertake the Award requiring BC Consultants to work with more than one agency to help the candidate complete their units during the period of their move.

Training and assessment of the tenancy award takes place in the home and includes:

Rights and Responsibilities of being a Tenant

Security in the Home

Health and Safety Awareness

Plus a choice of other units

Training and support is provided to assessors of the Programme

The Tenancy Award is accredited by NCFE

THE SESSIONAL ACTIVITIES AWARD

The Sessional Activities Award is for groups of at least 5 people who are taking part in sessional activities in a resource centre, training centre or workplace. Courses are planned by the course leader in the subject of their choice and must last at least six hours in total. The course plan is submitted to a BC Consultants Training Consultant for approval. Each candidate plans their learning and support, has one written assessment, and evaluates their learning outcomes.

This Programme is particularly suitable for candidates who wish to participate in a range of activities or ‘taster’ courses.

Training and support is provided to assessors of the Programme. Those who support candidates to complete their learning plans and evaluate the course are not required to have attended Introduction to Assessment.

Successful candidates receive a Borders College certificate of achievement.

 

INTRODUCTION TO ASSESSMENT

This 3 hour training is a requirement for assessors of the Skills Accreditation Programme, Tenancy Award and Sessional Activities Award.
